Sticken, Pomollusca Arboculus Rex

The concept for the fluid form of Sticken emerged from the sight of entangled beds of bull kelp undulating in the currents the Salish Sea. This green sea forest is home to the amazing Giant Pacific Octopus, noted for its remarkable intelligence, curiosity and complex ability to instantly resemble the surroundings, both in texture and pattern. The sculpture’s skin is built up from thousands of pieces of wood pruned from a century-old King apple tree.

Heronious One, Pescamatic Pominoid

In “Heronious One”, artists Rik Allen and Shelley Muzylowski Allen have created a collaborative sculpture that combines natural materials assembled to reflect traditional bent and woven construction to produce an evocative form that takes inspiration from the Great Blue Heron, a ubiquitous presence in the Salish shorelines near the artists’ home in Skagit Valley.

The sculpture’s structure is built from hundreds of pieces of wood pruned from a century-old King apple tree.
